Temporarily disables the L2 cache on your computer. The Power Macintosh 5500/225, 6500/225 and 6500/250 computers include an L2 cache module which improves your overall system performance. Apple is investigating an issue with some L2 cache modules on the Power Macintosh 5500/225, 6500/225 and 6500/250 computers where a user is unable to install system and application software on their hard drive without errors. The symptoms can appear as follows: 1.The installation is interrupted by a dialog box that reads, for example, "Unable to decompress file 'xxxx' because of a data mismatch error." After dismissing the dialog box, the user is either able to continue installing or the only option is to stop the installation depending on which type of installer is being used. 2. During software installation, system hangs (cursor arrow still moves), system freezes (cursor arrow does not move), or Type 10 errors can occur requiring a reboot. This extension will only load under System Software 7.5.5, System Enabler 1.0 on a Power Macintosh 5500 and 6500. Apple is investigating this issue and hopes to have a program in place with a permanent solution for this issue by the end of May, 1997. Until that time, Apple recommends that users use this extension to avoid this issue.
